Whitley Juniors Football Club was formed in 1980
at Whitley Private Members Club, The Avenue,
Whitley, Coventry by a group of local parents who
wanted a team for their sons to play in.
They entered the Coventry Minor
League in September of that year playing on parks
pitches. After a long search by Whitley we obtained
a lease on the land in Chace Avenue, Willenhall,
Coventry in 1986, with the use of a derelict hostel
building for a changing room.
In 1989 West Midlands Police
obtained part of the land for a new police station
and if it was not for the local press Whitley would
have lost its pitches.
In 1990, a 25 year lease was
given to the club and a grant was obtained and a new
changing room was built. 1998 permission was given
for our small sided teams to play at St. Anne’s
School, Chace Avenue, Willenhall, but now with the
redevelopment work at Binley Rec it has freed some
space on our land on Chace Ave, so the small sided
teams have moved away from St. Anne’s school.
During 2003 most of our teams
moved from Chace Avenue, but this is still the base
for the club, the teams that moved started playing
from Binley Rec on Grange Avenue, Binley, Coventry.
Over the past couple of years
we have been striving to become a bigger and better
club; firstly by managers and assistant managers
becoming FA qualified to level 1; secondly by
becoming an FA Chartered Club, which we have now
achieved. We now have managers that have
passed their FA coaching badges to level 2 and one
manager who is a qualified referee.
Two years ago we also
introduced an u13`s girls team which has now moved
to under 15`s. We have this season also started an
under 12`s girls team. |
